It doesn't look as though I am going to get any further back than this on the Brand line. Although we know of Alexander and his wife, Catherine Ross, through their names being recorded on various of their daughter Isabella Brand's records, the only record I have been able to find pertaining to Alexander himself, is the record of his marriage to Catherine Ross, Isabella's mother. I am confident this is the correct record as both it and Isabella's marriage record refer to Alexander as a "Merchant" and it is the only marriage between an Alexander Brand and a Catherine Ross that took place near the time of Isabella's birth. The curious thing, though, is that Isabella's birth record describes Catherine as a spinster ("Sp. a. d. n.").

While I have also found the births of other children to Alexander and Catherine, I have been unable to find Alexander's own birth or death records. I know Alexander died prior to Isabella's marriage as he is described in that record as "the late Alexander Brand". Also, I could not find him in the 1841 Census, so assume that he died before then too. Without these records I cannot go any further back. So the Brand line peters out at Generation 7.
